Summer Reading GAME!!!
Marilyn Janice Miller Elementary would like to introduce our first summer reading program to help avoid Summer Slide. Summer Slide is to forget some of what was learned during the school year or to slip out of practice during the summer months. If students do not read during the summer they will regress by 3 months. Use the summer to relax, have fun and enjoy a much needed break, but remember that even in the summer, learning is important.
Your child should continue to read for 30 minutes a day, but we would like to add a challenge to your daily reading. We are encouraging all of our 2015-2016 students to participate in Reading Bingo. Reading Bingo is designed to encourage students to read a variety of books over the summer break. Your student will need to print a bingo card for their grade level. Over the summer, students read a book that fits each category on the card and then write the title of the book in the box, and have a parent initial that it has been read. When the entire bingo card is full, the parent signs the card and then returns it to the classroom teacher when school begins. All cards must be submitted by August 26, 2015. Students who submit their completed, signed card may be out of uniform on Friday, August 28th, as part of our summer reading celebration.
